Fathers Day celebrated in Spain by: Marbella Family
In Spain, Father's Day is always celebrated on March 19th, unlike the the 3rd Sunday in June in the US and the UK. This day falls on Día de San Jose, which reflects the influence of the Catholic church on the Spanish calendar.
San Jose is a feast day in Spain and is a day to celebrate the life of St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. San Juan, in biblical terms, is the greatest example of fatherhood as he was the foster father of Jesus. He is also exemplified as a good husband to the Virgin Mary.
Most families in Spain get together for a big lunch or dinner with fathers and grandfathers and present them with gifts. This is a tine to honor those family members and friends who fulfill the role of father-figures.
On Father's Day in Spain we say ¨¡Feliz Día del Padre!¨
