When someone waxes lyrical about a restaurant, you have to know from experience, that their tastes and values are worth following.

We have just got back from a three month summer holiday in the UK only to find that one of our sister-in-laws and her partner were holidaying on the Costa, and we duly dined with them that evening.

They described a restaurant that they had lunched and dined at in San Pedro called Tanino. We eventually fathomed out where it was, and on Friday we lunched there.
It has only been opened for 6 weeks, hence the mystery of not knowing about it.
It is situated at the ‘quiet end’ of Avda. Las Palmeras (the main street) some 50 meters from the central roundabout that is over the tunnel.

A very pleasant, modern dining room & bar that seats about 30, and three comfortable terrace areas seating a further 60 outside. Tanino is opens from 8:00 am. to 11:30 every day. The cuisine is mainly Italian and the menu is divided into Breakfast - Snacks – Pasta – Starters - Mains and Dessert. Running a service from breakfast through to dinner has the danger of trying to be ‘all things to all men’ but our experience of the lunchtime service was positive. We started with their piquant mussles and an Italian version of Gazpacho called Salmorejo, and to follow a curried chicken risotto and Steak tartar, prepared as I had requested, but served with 6 tiny dishes of spices for me to make adjustments (nice touch), all were well received.
The service was excellent from a friendly, and knowledgeable staff.

I must say that all the dishes being served to other diners looked well presented and there were no complaints that I heard of. We were sufficiently impressed to plan a return for Breakfast and for Dinner some time soon.

This small town is becoming THE place to be for gastronomic excellence, and I believe when the gardens, that are being constructed over the tunnel, are completed early next year, that this will enhance still further the attractiveness of “Gastro-San Pedro”

On there web site www.tanino.es are menus from three of their other Tanino’s but not for the San Pedro one yet, but this will give you some idea of the type of cuisine they offer. They can be contacted on 952783394, Victor is the manager - underground car parking in front of the restaurant - average three course with wine 35€ - 45€.
Bishlin marks out of 5: Ambiance 4 food 4 service 4.5 menu 4 o/a 4
