Seasoned CdS family holidayers

Hi

We're a family of two parents and a 10 year old girl. We have a timeshare in Mijas Costa and consequently have spent a lot of time on the CdS.
We have already done the zoo at Fuengirola -several times- and this time will be staying near Benalmadena Costa during the third week of August.

We enjoy lots of different activities, everything from horse riding to museums and galleries. La Canada is always a must on every holiday and we love Puerto Banus and Marbella town for shopping and culture. We're looking for something a bit different for a half day or full day excursion adventure. What can you suggest?

Half day or full day excursion part 2

The best way to cool off is to go to an water park. The closest ones to you are Parque Acuatico Mijas and Aqualand in Torremolinos, which is also about 15-20 minutes from Mijas Costa.

If you are keen to wake up early and travel a bit further out I suggest visiting Isla Magica in Seville, which is about a 2 - 2.5 hour drive from Mijas. This is another amusement park, so your daughter will love it (it´s much bigger than Tivoli World) however, you have to be prepared. If you prefer to skip the amusement parks, then just head straight for the center of town in Seville and you will have a very cultural day visiting the Cathedral, Giralda, Parque de Maria Luisa, Plaza de España, Bullring and just roaming the charming Andalucian streets.

Granada is also a beautiful city to visit (about a 2 hour drive from Mijas) particularly the world famous Alhambra. This is a beautiful palace, however may be boring for you daughter, depending on how tolerant she is of museums and architectural monuments. Granada also has a an interactive science museum (Parque de las Ciencias) that my son recently went to on a school trip and really enjoyed.

If you are more into nature, beaches and chilling out, then Tarifa is the place for you. It will take about an hour and half from Mijas Costa to get there, but it has beautiful beaches and sand dunes, a charming town, and wonderful opportunities to kite surf or wind surf.

A great way to get into the Spanish culture is to attend a fair if there is one going on while during your stay. You can check out the schedule at your tourist office or read our page on Ferias in Spain.

We hope this is helpful and don´t hesitate to ask more questions, we are always happy to help.

Half day or full day excursion part 1

There are so many things to do on the coast in summer, so it´s just a matter of deciding what you like to do best as a family and how far you want to travel.

If you want to stick close to Mijas then a place that your daughter will surely enjoy is Tivoli World. It´s an amusement park located in Benalmadena (15 minutes from Mijas Costa). You can spend the whole day there easily, however this is an adventure more geared to children...depending on how much you enjoy amusement parks yourself.

Also nearby is Selwo Marina located in Benalmadena. This is an animal park/aquarium that is similar to Sea World in the US, but on a much smaller scale. It is not difficult to walk around this park in summer as there is always water nearby and you may get splashed by the dolphins in the dolphin and sea lion show.
