This performance is a direct transmission from Opera Bastille, Paris.

New production of the Opera of Paris (Opéra Bastille) of melodrama in three acts sung in Italian by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on the play Le Roi s'amuse, by Victor Hugo. It was premiered on 11 March 1851 at the teatro La Fenice in Venice.
