We were asked to join a charity lunch in aid of Cudeca, a worthy cause that we are always happy to support, that was being held at Neli G’s. The grape vine has it that both food and service are above what one would expect from, a self styled ‘café’ that proclaims to be all things to all men, starting at Breakfast, through elevenses, to lunch and traditional afternoon Tea, followed by a dinner service, though this is restricted to Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Opened some 4 years ago by Nevill & Lisa Gaffney (hence the name) the current owners are Angie and Daren who took over the family business last June continuing with the cuisine best described as, English comfort food.
Maitra ‘D Pasquale‘s domain is very much family orientated, one of the four distinct areas is a large play house for toddlers, and adjacent to this are places for family eating. Then there is dining room with bar, and a covered alfresco lounge/dining area along the front of the building. In total there are 65 covers inside and a further 15 out.
In one of the three menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is a 12.95€ table d’hot that most of our party of 16 chose from, and it was surprising how many had the ribs starter followed by the Beer Battered Haddock, Chips and Mushy Peas, and for those of us that felt the need for a sweet ending, Lemon méringue pie. Chef Roddie brought a smile of appreciation from every one of us, not only for the quality and quantity, but in the tastes, that he packed into every dish. Service from of our waitress Ashly was without fault, nothing was too much trouble, and this was very much appreciated. Exceptional value of under 20€ a head including wine, coffee and a tip brought another smile to our faces. This is definitely one on the list for budget quality eating in pleasant surroundings.
The VS: Neli G’s can be found on the N340, leave at Km 167 into the service road of Benavista, past all the shops, (400 m) look out for a vertical pink flag. Street parking. Average 3 course evening meal including wine and tip 30€ open 7 days a week. But Dinner service is on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Sunday for lunchtime only
