Wedding planners and Party Planners can be as important to your wedding as icing on your cake. It might all look easy right now while your wedding is still months away, but nearer the time you are going to wish you had thought it through and got yourself a wedding planner to look after all your last minute changes and all your suppliers. All of a sudden you will realise you are going to be stressed on your wedding day and that’s exactly what you don’t need!
Many venues will advertise that they offer free wedding planning included in their packages, but as you can see in this guide, may of them are more akin to “venue coordinators” rather than fully fledged wedding planners. They will look after you brilliantly inside their venue, but when it comes to any outside organisation, don’t be surprised if you get handed a business card for said service and you’re on your own.
Imagine you just got married in a church in Marbella and now you need to guide all your guests down the cobbled streets to the coach you organised yourself… and it’s not there yet…There you are in your pretty dress, totally stressed out. Not a pretty picture and definitely something you want to avoid on your big day.
Wedding planners in Marbella will literally look after everything on your wedding day, and the days leading up to it for that matter! They will make sure all your suppliers arrive in time, the soundchecks are done before your guests arrive, all your guests are accounted for on the coach, all your decorations and flowers are looking glorious an hour before anyone arrives, your photographer has his schedule, the cake is set up and a knife is at the ready.
A wedding planner will also make sure that your best man doesn’t get too drunk and everyone gets paid when they have delivered their services. All you have to do is look beautiful and enjoy your wedding day.
If you feel you need a wedding planner - someone to look after you. You only get married once in your life, make sure you are not too stressed to be able to take it all in.
Costs: Most wedding planners will charge a flat fee for their services. This fee can range from €1,000 per wedding up to €5,000. It all depends on the way your wedding planner does their business.
Are they also a decorator and will they charge you for decorations? Chances are their planning fees are lower if this is the case. Some wedding planners have commission deals with venues and suppliers which is generally 10% of what you spend, so they will be looked after by the suppliers too and this is why their fixed fees can stay lower. However, some wedding planners decide to pass these commissions straight to their brides, and in this case their fixed fee might be higher, but your suppliers’ fees might be lower.
Deposits: Wedding planners generally ask for a 25% deposit for booking them and then ask for the remainder a month or so before the wedding. Deposits are not refundable as the wedding planner will book the day for you and does not generally take other bookings on the same day.
Their fees usually don’t change if you have fewer guests. Funnily enough, the smaller the wedding the harder the work, so even though you might only have 40 guests at your wedding, the workload will be equal to that of a wedding of 150 people, if not more!
