From the 10th to the 13th of October 2013, the Costa del Sol will see thousands of walking enthusiasts from all over the world take part in the popular Marbella 4 Days Walking Event to keep fit, have fun and raise money for various local charities.

Participants and sponsors of the event, Residencia Estates have taken advantage of new technologies and developed a new smart phone app specially for the occasion that will provide walkers with useful tools, information and discounts. What’s more, it downloadable for FREE!

The M4DW event is inspired by the biggest walkathon in the world, (Vierdaagse) which is held in the Netherlands every year and is hugely successful. The Marbella walkathon was also a great success last year and organisers hope this year will be even bigger, which should prove positive for tourism in the area.

The easy-to-use app, created by Residencia Estates, will provide participants with loads of useful information such as; regular updates, news, weather, full details of the route and even discounts at various local bars and restaurants. The app can be shared via Facebook and Twitter, and also contains a personal barcode that is scanned at the beginning and end of each day to record the walker’s times and progress.

Those who wish to take part can tailor the event to their preferences by choosing which days they want to walk and whether they take the 20 or 30 kilometre routes, so holidaymakers can even join in for the day and really take in the beauty of Southern Spain in a sociable way. However, those who take part in all four days will receive a medal of completion in the style of the famous Vierdaagse walkathon in the Netherlands. The fun and useful app will make it easy for people to stay up to date with all the information they need to know about this great Co2 neutral event.
