The approach to Km0 in Marbella
Gratefully, we return to the ‘costa’ after our summer sojourn which had many disruptions to our normally enjoyable stay in the UK, and on arrival, to my delight, I have found at least 6 new restaurants in ‘Gastro’ San Pedro.
At the northerly end of Ave. del Mediterranio are restaurants: Km0 (Zero), Benisty, and Pampita, and these will be the subject of my first three reviews.
Amanda is the young entrepreneur who opened Km.0 less than a month ago, and already has a specialist organic restaurant behind the Plaza hotel, Nuevo Andalucia, where vegans
can dine.
For her new venture she has created an interestingly decorated dining room and pleasant shaded al fresco area, seating about 60 in total. I am told their tenet for the restaurant’s name is that they will try to source as many ingredient locally as possible and so, Km.0 was thought to portray this!
Whilst the menu of 8 starters, 3 fish, 3 meat, and 4 desserts is rather limited, it is supplemented by the special of the day, and a snack menu.
We both opted for the grilled duo of scallops over mashed sweet potatoes with a garlic sauce, and although delicious, and piping hot, was of’ ‘nouveau cuisine’ proportions!
Mains of Pargo (Red Snapper) with some stir fry vegetables was my wife's choice, and for me, an Entrecôte steak, with the same veggies, and a Chimichurry sauce, plus a side dish of peasant potatoes. Things seem to arrive to table in dribs and drabs, and as before, delicious but, only one small fillet for the fish, and a 6mm. thick steak served on a cold plate! (see photo)
The jury is out as to whether we will revisit this eatery, as I consider the portions small, even for a person with a moderate appetite, as well as too little attention being paid to the all important details.
