The Moorish occupation was the longest in Gibraltar's History, lasting from 711 to 1309 and 1350 to 1462. It should be remember that the Moors started their invasion of the Iberian Peninsula from Gibraltar, coming over from North Africa.

In Greek mythology Gibraltar was Calpe, one of the Pillars of Hercules, which marked the edge of the Mediterranean and the known world. In 711 Tariq ibn Ziyad, the Muslim governor of Tangier, landed at Gibraltar to launch the Islamic invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. The Rock took his name - Jabal Tariq (Mountain of Tariq) eventually became Gibraltar.

“The best way to see Marbella Malaga and Gibraltar”

Ee spent a few days of a three week vacation to Europe traveling with Alberto. By the time we got to him we were tourist crowd-weary and ready for a different pace. He helped us enjoy the Spanish countryside in all its splendor. Delicious food, good wine, an informal tour of an olive oil branch, a leisurely walk around Malaga to see the rich history of that town including an interesting day trip to Gibraltar.

How did this diverse combination of events come together? Through a few emails before we arrived and a discussion over the map after we were together, Alberto was able to plan the perfect itinerary for our family. He took us places we couldn’t have found on our own, sharing his love of the area around every corner. He is a fun traveling companion, a knowledgeable guide, and an important part of our family vacation memories!
