Hi I'm looking for a GCSE Tutor for my daughter this summer in August for about 2 - 3 weeks to help her with her studies. She is currently in year 10, but really struggles and I'm looking for a tutor or course in Marbella which will help her in Science, Maths, Spanish and Engllish!

Hello Tracey, et al:

I very rarely advertise my services, because most of my engagements come from parent and student referrals. That said, here we go...

My specialities are Mathematics, Economics, Business and Academic writing. Equally, 50% of my engagements are with students who wish to matriculate to universities in the USA: University selection, the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and the entire application process from start to finish.

I have been a businessman and mentor all of my professional career (40+ years), and I have taught in three of the local Marbella schools, both at the secondary and university levels. I have been tutoring privately for 6 years with remarkable success.

I believe in the Socratic method of education. That is, I do not "give away" the answers, as answers without method are worthless. Rather, I encourage my students to use Critical Thinking, and fundamentals, so that they come to the answers themselves, thus "owning" the knowledge. Thus, they are prepared to answer any question, not just the ones from endless "mock exams" and test questions scraped from past papers.

I hold the following degrees:

B.A. (honors) in Mathematics and Statistics and a further B.A. in Economics (honors) from the University of California, the UK equivalent of which is a "Double 1st."

MBA (Masters of Business Administration) from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

I offer private, bespoke, tutoring at any academic level, including university. My specialties are: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Business Studies, ICT, and high calibre Academic Writing. I can also help out in general sciences. I hold two Honors BA degrees in Maths/Statistics and in Economics, from the University of California. For those students who have not completed their secondary education, I offer full instruction in the American GED (General Education Development) tests. Upon completion, the student receives a certified High School Diploma, accepted at American universities. The GED is often accepted in UK universities as well. I offer complete Academic Counseling regarding the correct choice of university, either in USA or UK, for students and their parents. Hello, My name is Debra Pearson, I have, until recently held the post of Head of the Maths Department at an International School in Marbella, but have now decided to offer my services as a Private Tutor in Maths. I will be starting in September 2014 and still have some sessions available. If you are interested in tutoring for your child or would like a chat to discuss how I could be of help, I would be happy to do so.

I have detailed my fees below so any interested parties can see the different charges in black and white,

The first session I have with a student and parents is free. The aim of this session is to diagnose and discuss the particular needs of the student, to enable me to plan effectively for future sessions. This also allows you to meet me and ask any questions you may have.

My fees include travel, planning, all resources and on-line support via an educational website designed for students and teachers (much like facebook, where students can ask questions of me and get responses over the internet.)This is optional.

Sessions in your home

40 Euros per hour
if you book and pay for ten sessions in advance the fee is 350 Euros.

If you come to me (I am near Cancelada, 2 minutes off the A7), although I am currently looking for premises for the future, which would be closer to Marbella

35 Euros per hour
If you book and pay for ten sessions in advance the fee is 300 Euros.

Please note I have Spanish and English police checks, which are necessary to work in schools and can give you further recommendations if required.

I would suggest one hour long sessions are sufficient for GCSE and KS3, however if you are interested in tutoring for IB or A Levels, you might like to consider one and a half hour sessions.

I can provide tutor sessions at any time, day evening or weekends, (if I am not already booked.)

In addition I also provide intensive day or week sessions for exam preparation or catch up. These services are quoted for individually.
