the alfresco dining deck
Consistency is one of the greatest attributes that restaurateurs should always strive for, ally this to major improvements to the ambiance and this could arguably amount to a seed change in the popularity stakes. Prado have increased the dining room size along with a striking series of bifold glass walls, and developed the alfresco area into a two-level deck expanse, with most of it under a retractable sun shade. What was already a magical dining experience (see my picture at the head of their TA entry) will now become sophisticated – not as I referred to it 4 years ago as ‘the forecourt of a bank’. I would guess, as it looks like they have just varnished it, that the opening of this area for the Summer is imminent. In total Prado can now cope with 100 covers in comfort, with nice table settings and lighting, excellent service from staff that seek to please. Their successful formula hasn’t changed much, indeed a lot of the tried and tested starters and mains are still on the menu, and the 19.95€ fixed price 3 courses are only a few cents more but still with drinks, a table setting charge, plus IVA the likely total will be 30€. They have, an A ’la carte, and a set Sunday Lunch menu.
From the 14 starter options we chose Warm Goats Cheese with Pear salad and honey dressing, Vodka Salmon carpaccio with Avocado, Asparagus and Dill Mustard sauce, and prawn and Courgette tempura with sweet Mango Chilli dipping sauce. Though there were 9 alternatives we all went for the Chargrilled Prime Rib of Beef served on a ‘Sizzling’ dish that was finishing the cooking off, and the flavour certainly added to the ‘yummy points, with chunky chips, Green Beans and a gorgeous Pepper sauce. From the half dozen desserts, our choice was a Banana Split, creme Brule, Cheese Cake, and a Chocolate Fondant with Vanilla Ice Cream. Every dish more than lived up to its descriptive promise. Matra D’ Michelle and our waiters Pedro and Sergio were all exemplary, and the whole dining experience was one of pleasure. Needless to say we are all looking forward to dining on the deck – soon!
The VS:
Open for Dinners only 6 days a week, and Sunday Lunch. It is a pity that their web site is still somewhat dysfunctional. To find Prado Halcones Proceed up the Ronda Road past El Corte Ingles distribution center on the right, then, about 2.5 km further on, after ignoring the left fork into Los Arqueros, turn right into Centro Commercial Halcones and the restaurant is immediately on the left. Street parking.
