Christmas Fair on Andalucian farm, Hacienda Almoguera - 28-29 November 2015

The Feria Navideña is a family friendly Christmas Fair in Los Barrios with artisan, charity, food, wine and children stalls, and only twenty minutes in the car from Gibraltar. It is a popular event with the expat community in the area, Gibraltarians and local Spanish alike, with something for everyone. It is just what is needed to get one in to the festive spirit; there is nativity scene, a flamenco Christmas choir, mince pies, mulled wine and a roaring fire…

Hacienda Almoguera, dates back to 1794, it was the principal agricultural cortijo on the Monte de la Torre estate in Los Barrios and is owned by the Larios family. Located in the picturesque Parque de Los Alcornocales (Protected Cork Forest) it is typical of the old farm buildings of Cádiz. Ten years ago it was elegantly restored for events.
The Feria Navideña was organised for the first time in 2007 by Tomás, Luisa and Benedict Agnew Larios now the fifth generation of the Larios family. They had been fully involved in the restoration of the farmhouse and wanted to organise a charity event showcasing local artisans and small businesses in the area.

Nine years later it has become a bit of an institution and with nine children between them, all aged under ten, the event is very much geared towards families with children. There is plenty to keep the younger generation distracted whilst their parents socialise and shop; including a bouncy castle, pony rides, go-karts, biscuit, ceramic, face painting, art and crafts and this year for the first time animals from Monte de la Torre’s own petting farm the “Granja Escuela Bilingue”.

Please can visitors remember to bring donations of non perishable foods; pastas, rices, oils, canned food and dried legumbres, as there will be collection boxes at the entrance of the Fair for the Food Bank of the Bay of Gibraltar. Every little bit helps.
There is a 3€ entrance fee per vehicle and profits will go towards the White Cross, who help refugees and those in need in the area.
Lunch will be on offer and will include organic beef burgers from Almoguera’s Organic Farm, plus Indian and Thai Curries.
