Marbella Family Fun update - Friday April 11, 2014 Semana Santa April 13 - April 19 Semana Santa also known as Easter Week or Holy Week, is a holiday in Spain filled with rich religious fanfare, culture, parades and music. This is an event you won't want to miss. Semana Santa is the Spanish name for Easter and is celebrated in every village and city in Spain when residents celebrate the most important feast: The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Some of the most glamorous celebrations and largest processions are found in Seville and Malaga, both in the province of Andalucia, where parades can start at the crack of dawn and may continue until 4:00 in the morning Click here to read more… Marbella Easter Processions Schedule Marbella Easter processions are held all throughout the Holy Week and consist of "tronos" (thrones that are as big as floats) which can weigh more than 5,000 kilos. The ornately carved thrones are hundreds of years old (some dating to the 17th century) and are carried by members of the local brotherhood, which is witnessed by thousands of people who come to see and applaud their favorite thrones.
