* Marbella Fires

By now, you have heard that on August 30 and 31 Malaga province suffered some pretty disastrous fires, forcing many to evacuate their homes and neighborhoods. The fires, which have been declared as the worst in memory in Malaga, started in Coin and spread as far as Marbella, Elviria, Mijas and Alhaurin el Grande.

The fires are now under control, however thousands of hectares of wildlife and nature have been burned to the ground leaving an eerie dark wasteland behind and a lot of repair to be done. According to several news agencies a total of 224 homes have been affected and 7,775 hectares (although some claim more than 8,000 hectares) are burnt to the ground. Over 600 firefighters and 28 aircraft were also involved coming from various areas along the coast and beyond.

Many residents are left without much and the local community is working hard to organize food, water and clothing for those in need. One of the websites that popped up recently is sosandalucia.com. If you have been affected by these fires or would like to find a way to help, check out this site and share it with others. Click here to read more...
