Marbella Family Fun update - Friday May 11, 2012 * English movie listings This is the listing for movies that are playing in Marbella and on the Costa del Sol in English from Friday May 11th until Thursday May 17th. Cines Gran Marbella Puerto Banus
Fuengirola Cinesur Miramar: Plaza Mayor Malaga:
Click here to find movie times and locations... * La Fishita This week I tried out La Fishita restaurant and was really pleasantly surprised. I am not much of a fish and chip person (love good fish), but think I am converted now. They serve quality fresh fish with all of your favorite English sides (like mushy peas), plus they're conveniently located near the H10 Andalucia Plaza Hotel where there is plenty of parking. Don't miss it during your next trip out to Marbella. (Or try it today if you are in town now!) Click here to read more... TIP: Kids quiz night coming soon to La Fishita. Watch this space... * Tarifa getaway The rain has gone and the sun is out again, so it's time to breakaway to Tarifa and get the summer season started early! Tarifa is a definite "must-see" when visiting the Costa del Sol. It's about an hour and a half drive, but well worth it. Once you're there you won't want to come back, so we recommend spending a night or two. If you need a place to stay, consider staying at Casa la Luz. You won't find more competitive rates starting from 50 euros a night for 4 people nor a better location. Click here to read more... TIP: If you’re considering spending time in Tarifa in July or August, we recommend you book your accommodation now. All the good places sell out quickly for this time of year. * Bellaria Bakery and Cafe It's communion time and Bellaria has some of the tastiest cakes on the Costa del Sol (supplying many of the hottest restaurants here too). Some of their latest creations include Peanut Butter Pie, Chocolate Cheesecake and Strawberry Cardamom Tart. Bellaria isn't only about sweets, they also have a fantastic lunch menu and an organic section selling goji berry, Açai and Blueberry juice, filled with antioxidants, Omega and plenty of energy as well as healthy pick me up snacks. Service is excellent too...always with a big smile. Click here to read more... * Osaka Japanese restaurant Our favorite place for sushi is Osaka Restaurant (hands down). Located in Cancelada, about 10 minutes from Marbella, it is worth the extra mile to get there for its fresh sushi, friendly service, quality beef and seafood and all around fantastic Japanese food. Osaka is not a new and trendy restaurant with all the latest moving trains, bells and whistles, but it has been around for 20 years and that, to me, says enough. Click here to read more... TIP: Book a table for the tepanyaki show for a special treat. The kids love it! See this short clip (Scroll to the bottom of the page) to understand why. * Laude San Pedro summer school Laude San Pedro International College is offering a wide variety of courses and activities for children aged 3 to 15 this summer from July 2nd to July 27th. The summer school is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 2:30pm with lunch included. Fully qualified English-speaking staff. TIP: Book before June 8th and get a 5% discount. Yesterday we got together a nice group of people (and dogs!) for a short hike through the mountains just behind Aloha College. (See our Facebook wall for photos). You can join the Triple AAA dog shelter for a wonderful hike through the mountains every Saturday starting at 10:30am just behind La Cañada shopping center. The weather is supposed to be really nice tomorrow, so why not get outdoors, get a bit of exercise and meet new people? This event is organized by the local charity ADANA with all the proceeds being used to care for abandoned dogs in this area. There are lots of categories and prizes…even ones to entertain the younger set of the family with a "Best Junior Dog Handler". On the 17th is a basics class and on the 18th you can learn all about iPhoto and iMovie. Cost is 50 euro. Click here to read more… * Andalusian nature walks If you enjoy the outdoors, you may want to register next week for the next nature walk organized by Marbella Town Hall called Salidas Abiertas. This is a great way to discover the nature that exists along the Costa del Sol as well as a wonderful opportunity to meet locals and practice your Spanish.
The next walk is scheduled for May 20 to the Nature Park Sierra Crestellina - intermediate - 9 km - 12 euro. However, there seems to be a discrepancy with this day's walk. It has been recently announced that the walk will be to Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales - intermediate/advanced - 11km. However, the website reflects the walk to Sierra Crestellina. When you register, please confirm. If you have made this trip before, please comment and let us know how your experience was and if you have any recommendations to share with our readers. Click here to read more… * Children’s summer flamenco classes One of our readers asks, "I am looking for a flamenco course, or a place in Marbella where my daughters can take some hours with flamenco-classes while we are there at holiday this summer. We are going to Marbella for 1 week; 7.-14. of July 2012. My daughters are 4 years old and 8 years old - the 8 years old are dancing ballet here in Norway. It would only be for some hours during the week, to try out what Flamenco-dance is. Most of the time we will be at the beach, of course, but it would be great to let them try this dance when they are in Spain!" We have given a couple of leads, so take a look if you’d also like your kids to try out flamenco dancing during the summer. Or, if you have a studio or class you can recommend (or tell us to avoid), please let us know. Comments are always welcome! There are some things we want to bring back, some that we hope to sell and some that we'll be happy to give away (all good condition by the way). Does anyone have any ideas of: - websites we could sell furniture etc. on? - charity shops in the area around Elviria (who may be could collect some of the larger items) - companies that offer part van loads back to the UK? Thank you in advance for your help ” We’ve had a great response from our Facebook fans…thank you very much! Check out what we’ve come up with or continue our list with a bit of your own advice. Click here to read more… * Starlite Festival The Starlite Festival Marbella is a cultural and charitable event you won't want to miss this summer. From July 13 to August 14 there will be 14 concerts performed by international stars such as Julio Iglesias, George Benson, Christopher Cross, and Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) among others. Click here to read more… * Wifi in Marbella One of our readers asks, “We're off to Marbella for a month in June and, as we both have iPhones, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there are "wifi zones" which you can pay to access? The sort I am thinking of is when you check for wifi and a signal comes up when on the beach etc but you need to be a subscriber? Obviously anything is better than data roaming!!" We got a lot of responses for free wifi zones in Marbella, so check out the link if you’re interested. However, not as many answers for a pay service where you can access it from the beach. Do you know of one? Click here to read more… * Hamster looking for home One of our readers needs to find a home for a pet hamster, "Hamster free with cage to a good home. Doesn't bite and not too speedy either. Any offers? Also a friend has two guinea pigs with their cage." Contact @Nicky Beck on Facebook (see Recent posts by Others) or send us a message at marbellafamilyfun@gmail.com and we will put you in touch with Nicky.Click here to read more… * Los Patios de Cordoba It’s the last weekend of Los Patios de Cordoba festival, which runs until May 13th. It's a nice time to visit the city and admire their beautiful courtyards. It’s about a 2 hour drive, but a very lovely one through the Andalusian countryside. There is a map and program you can download. Click here to read more… * Another little joke LOL! Received a load of funny things that kids say from a friend. Made my day. Here is another one in case you missed it on our Facebook wall: A nursery school pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was dead. 'How do you know that the cat was dead?' she asked her pupil. 'Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move,' answered the child innocently. 'You did WHAT?' the teacher exclaimed in surprise. 'You know,' explained the boy, 'I leaned over and went 'Pssst' and it didn't move'
